Comparing Ethernet II and 802.3

There is IEEE802.3 ethernet and Ethernet II. THe former has a “length” field in it (and also an 802.2 LLC and ‘SNAP’ header) and the latter (the one we use most commonly common on TCP/IP networks) replaces length field with a “type” field…
The Type field denotes the upper-layer protocol, e.g. Hex 0800 for IP or 0806 for ARP (see iana numbers assignment at [url]http://www.iana.org/assignments/ethernet-numbers[/url]
